Johannesburg - The SABC has reported that a serious multi-vehicle accident was holding up weekend holidaymakers travelling back to Gauteng from KwaZulu-Natal on the N3 through the Free State on Sunday night.
The accident was south of the Wilge toll plaza at Villiers.
Another crash was blocking the N4 in both directions between Elandshoek and Godwana in Mpumalanga.
Motorists were advised to use the N4 Schoemanskloof route to avoid the area.
The SABC reported that there were more than 2 000 vehicles an hour passing through the De Hoek toll plaza at Heidelberg in Gauteng, with high traffic volumes on other national routes too.
