Horse flu spreads

Port Elizabeth - Both horse racing facilities in Port Elizabeth - Arlington and Fairview - are now under quarantine following an earlier outbreak of equine influenza in Cape Town, the SABC news reported on Monday.
Eastern Cape racing manager Mike Greeff says Fairview also had to be put under quarantine after horses there started showing symptoms of the disease.
About 120 horses at the two facilities are affected.
Greeff says racing continued at Fairview last week with reduced fields but the situation will be re-assessed on Wednesday.
Authorities believe the disease spread to Port Elizabeth as a result of horses being transported from Milnerton where the original outbreak occurred.
