Cape Town - Edward Kennedy was a passionate and committed supporter of the anti-apartheid struggle, Archbishop Desmond Tutu said on Thursday.
In a statement following the United States senator's death from brain cancer, Tutu said that when Kennedy visited South Africa in 1985, he stayed in the Tutus' home in Soweto for one night.
"Ted played a significant role in US politics and will be sorely missed for his valuable guidance and contribution towards justice," Tutu said.
"We and the world owe him much."
