Harare - Twenty-two people were killed and another 42 injured in a bus crash in central Zimbabwe caused by reckless driving, police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent Oliver Mandipaka said 19 died instantly when a haulage truck slewed into a bus near the village of Selous, about 90km west of Harare, on Tuesday.
A pick-up truck trying to overtake the bus hit the oncoming haulage truck head-on, and its trailer ripped into the side of the bus, which ended up 200m off the road in a field, he said.
The bus, owned by the Tombs bus company, was carrying 64 people.
The major crash comes less than two weeks after 12 people were burnt beyond recognition and 48 were seriously injured when the bus in which they were travelling - illegally carrying large quantities of fuel - smashed into a heavy truck in central Zimbabwe.
