Pretoria - A 37-year-old Pretoria magistrate, his wife and son were arrested at their home in the early hours on Tuesday in connection with the theft of R1.6m worth of slimming products.
The magistrate, his wife, 34, and their son, 18, were being questioned, said police spokesperson Inspector Percy Morokane.
The three were arrested at their Zwartkop, Centurion, home around 04:30.
Police were following up information relating to the theft of Bioslim products from a Centurion laboratory over the past two months from the company Vitamin Laboratories.
Morokane said police confiscated Bioslim products worth about R18 000 from the magistrate's house. They were stored in an outbuilding.
"A representative of Vitamin Laboratories identified the goods through their serial numbers as the same goods stolen from the company."
The exact method of the theft was still under investigation, Morokane said. He could not give any further information on the modus operandi or the magistrate's alleged involvement.
He added that police intended questioning several other people. More arrests were imminent.
The three people arrested would be charged in court should it emerge from the questioning that a prima facie case existed, Morokane said.
