Johannesburg - Ten armed men attempted to rob a security cash van on Saturday morning in Soshanguve, Pretoria police said.
Spokesperson Captain Prince Mokhabela said the security van had stopped to load money into an ATM at about 10:00 when the robbers appeared.
"The cash van was travelling with a motor vehicle.
"The motor vehicle's driver had the keys to the safe in the van. He saw the robbers and fled on foot without opening the safe. They fired several shots at him," he said.
Mokhabela said the cash van sped off from the scene while the robbers were still chasing the motor vehicle driver.
No money was taken and there were no injuries reported.
No arrests had been made.
Police opened an attempted robbery docket.
