Blood donor questions

Prospective donors to South African Blood Transfusion Services are required to answer the following questions:

1. Over the past six months have you had more than one sex partner, casual sex or sex with someone whose sexual past is unknown to you?

2. Male donors: Have you had sex with another man over the past five years?

Have you had sex with a male of female sex worker over the past five years, or have you received money, drugs, goods or favours for sex received/given?

4. Have you had any sexually transmitted diseases over the past five years?

5. Do you have Aids or are you HIV positive? 6. Have you been accidentally been in contact with blood of body fluids (eg. needle prick accident) or have you been the victim of assault (eg. stabbing) in the past six months? 7. Have you ever injected yourself with a needle or with drugs or substances, including steroids not prescribed by a doctor?

8. According to your information are any of the above mentioned applicable to your sex partner? 9. Do you donate blood in order to be tested for HIV/Aids?
