'Robbery won't affect matric exams'

Johannesburg - Monday night's robbery at the Gauteng department of education offices would not affect matric examinations, said MEC Angie Motshekga.
"No information concerning examinations was stored in the stolen computers. Information concerning exams had already been printed out and all papers have been delivered already," she told a media briefing on Tuesday.
Motshekga could however not speculate on whether a gang of more than 20 armed robbers had specifically targeted the department's "sensitive" departments or not. Also, she could not say what the motive for the robbery was.
"I haven't received a detailed report yet. All I know is that upper floors weren't affected at all."
She said only the first four floors housing the department's finance, communication, infrastructure and policy development sections were cleaned out.
About 120 computers were stolen when the gang of about 20 robbers gained entry into the department's offices at 111 Commissioner Street through a basement door.
Motshekga said each section of the department had five security guards on duty at the time.
A total of 76 091 full-time pupils and 60 565 part-timers were expected to sit for examinations from Wednesday.
