Dbn cops kill hijacker

Durban - A suspected robber was shot dead and another was wounded during a shoot-out with police on M4 freeway near Durban's Bluff/Edwin Swales off-ramp on Monday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Superintendent Vishnu Naidoo said a third man was arrested.
Monday's shootout took place after police noticed a suspected hijacked BMW on Monday. The car had been reported as hijacked from Sonqoba Mapanga on Saturday night in Umlazi's at "J"-Section.
Crime intelligence services members had received information that the BMW Mapanga had been driving was followed on Saturday night.
They saw a suspect Volkswagen Golf Chico near John Ross House on the Esplanade. The occupants of the Golf got out of the golf and drove away in a BMW. They left the Golf in the parking lot.
Naidoo said police rushed to John Ross House and found the Golf in the parking lot.
When the alleged hijackers arrived back at John Ross House without the BMW and got back into the Golf they were surprised by the police, who approached, only to have the men speed off again.
Naidoo said the police gave chase them and a shoot-out ensued.
Police recovered three pistols and several rounds of ammunition. A search is still under way for the BMW, he said.
Mapanga is the son a high-ranking Mpumalanga policeman.
