East London - A 37-year-old Mdantsane man, who posed as an engineer for six years, has been arrested for fraud involving more than R10.8m, said police on Thursday.
Superintendent Mtati Tana said Kholekile Mvandaba was arrested by the commercial crimes unit at 09:30 on Wednesday.
"He allegedly acted as a professional engineer when he was not. He is facing charges of fraud amounting to R10 861 935 after the misrepresentations he allegedly made at the department of public works, consulting as an engineer from 2001 until 2007."
Mvandaba was said to have operated in Kirkwood, North End, Mdantsane, the Middledrift Correctional Services and other places.
Police visited his Umthawelanga Consulting Engineers in Southernwood and the man was arrested when he handed himself in at the police station the same day.
He appeared in East London Magistrate's Court on Wednesday and was granted R20 000 bail, said Tana.
The matter was postponed until June 6.
