Cape Town - Shots were fired inside the Blue Route shopping centre in Tokai, Cape Town, apparently after a botched robbery attempt on Friday.
People scattered in all directions as the suspects entered the complex firing shots.
It was not immediately clear whether anyone had been shot but ambulances and a police helicopter as well as a Skymed air ambulance helicopter were on the scene.
There was a large police presence at the Blue Route Centre including the police's task force. Traffic officials cordoned off roads leading to the centre.
A man who was at the Wimpy restaurant in the mall at the time, Paddy Gordon, told Cape Talk radio he heard shots.
"Looking in the direction of the shots I just saw people fleeing from the direction where the banks are situated," Gordon said.
