Johannesburg - A Heidelberg family was attacked and assaulted by four armed men who entered their home, East Rand police reported on Saturday.
Superintendent Andy Pieke said the men, armed with an AK-47 and a firearm, threatened the family and demanded cash before assaulting them.
They poured boiling water over Willem de Bruyn's legs after ransacking the house. They did not find cash in the house but fled in the family's silver BMW.
Pieke said de Bruyn, his wife, Elize, 46, and their 18-year-old son were taken to Heidelberg Hospital for treatment.
The wife and son were discharged after treatment. The husband was still being treated for first-degree burns on his legs, said Pieke.
Nobody has been arrested yet and Heidelberg police are investigating.
