Johannesburg - At least 1.3 million South Africans have only got only until Friday's deadline to apply for the conversion of their driver's licences to the new credit card format licence, the national transport department said on Monday.
Transport department road traffic management services manager Lisa Mangcu said those who have failed to secure a new card licence by Saturday, will either be given a warning or arrested - depending on the traffic officer or magisterial district.
Mangcu added the 330 licensing offices countrywide available to process new driver's licences are sufficient.
"We definitely have the capacity to handle it. All that remains is for motorists to patiently wait in queues, or possibly drive to another licensing offices where queues are shorter."
