Brits - A 60-year-old North West farmer has been arrested after he allegedly shot dead a man who had broke into his shop at Mamogaleskraal near Brits.
Police spokesperson Thabo Makhafola said the farmer surprised two men inside his shop on Monday morning.
"He fired one warning bullet. One of the suspects flees (sic) and the other suspect attacked him with a knife," he said.
"The farmer shot him twice in the chest. The suspect died at the Brits hospital."
The farmer will appear in the Brits magistrate's court on Tuesday on a murder charge.
Police found a television set, two chairs and groceries worth about R1 500 - presumably what the burglars intended to steal.
