Neighbours hit it off

Pretoria - Two Pretoria neighbours who are at logger-heads over a disrupted afternoon nap, have laid charges of assault against each other.
Gerrie Kruger and his wife, Linda, from Pretoria Gardens, told on Sunday how Renier Scholtz, their neighbour, attacked Kruger with an angle-grinder and a steel pipe because his afternoon nap had been disrupted.
At the time, Kruger had been busy erecting a steel fence.
According to Scholtz's wife, Lucinda, the story was the other way around.
She said her husband apparently approached Kruger calmly and asked him to switch off the angle-grinder as he wanted to rest. But, she said, Kruger refused.
She denied the Krugers' accusations that Scholtz swore and screamed at Kruger.
According to her, Scholtz picked up the angle-grinder but when he bent to replace it, Kruger hit him across the back with a steel pipe. Scholtz apparently hit Kruger back in self defence.
"Kruger fell against the fence. This is how he cut his eye. It's definitely not from an angle-grinder," said Scholtz's wife.
According to her, Kruger's wife swore at the Scholtz children.
Both parties said that they had laid charges at the Hercules police station.
Inspector Anton Breedt, police spokesperson, confirmed this.
