Cape Town - The wife of a high profile ANC politician will appear in court on Monday after being found to be allegedly drunk when stopped at a roadblock.
The 51-year-old woman spent part of Friday evening in police cells and was released early on Saturday morning.
Police confirmed that traffic police arrested a 51-year-old woman from Pretoria at a routine roadblock in Elsie's River about 22:50 on Friday night because "she was driving a vehicle while allegedly under the influence of alcohol".
Police spokesperson Superintendent Riaan Pool said it was not known how far she exceeded the limit for alcohol in the bloodstream. This will only be determined by blood tests.
The woman, who is married to a deputy minister, was released about 03:30 on Saturday morning "after all necessary administrative and medical procedures were concluded".
Pool said she was released on condition that she appears before Goodwood magistrate's court on Monday.
