Durban - An 80-year-old KwaZulu-Natal woman was raped at the weekend by a man claiming to know her daughter, police said on Monday.
Police spokesperson Captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the incident took place at the woman's home in the Msekayi Reserve near Mtubatuba on Saturday.
The matter was reported to police on Sunday.
"The woman told police she was sleeping at 22:00 when the man knocked at the door and demanded entry," he said.
"The woman refused to open the door so he broke a window and came in," Mdletshe said.
The man asked for her daughter but she was not at home at the time.
"He then asked the granny to take off her clothes and she refused - then he raped her," said Mdletshe.
No goods were taken from the home.
Police said a rape case had been opened and the man's identity was known.
It was unclear whether the man was a boyfriend or friend of the victim's daughter, police said.
