Johannesburg - Two robbers were severely beaten by an angry mob of community members after they robbed a local businessman of R30 000, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.
Superintendent Abie Khoabane said the two men entered the business premises in Siyabuswa, Middelburg of a 42-year old man and held him at gunpoint.
"They took about R30 000 and then fled."
"Community members that were passing by caught the two and severely beat them," he said.
According to police the two men were still in hospital under police guard.
"Although we appreciate the community assisting us, we condemn them taking the law into their own hands," said Khoabane.
The men were expected to appear in the Siyabuswa Magistrate's Court after their discharge from hospital, police said.
