SA blood donor makes history

Johannesburg - An elderly Johannesburg man is set to make history on Thursday when
he donates blood for the 323rd time.
Retired lawyer 75-year-old Maurice Creswick will make history
during a live radio broadcast on the Medical Talk programme on New
Pan Hellenic Voice Radio on 14.22 medium wave, the station told
Sapa on Tuesday.
New Pan Hellenic Voice Radio is a community radio station
broadcasting in Greek and English from Bedfordview.
Programme presenter Maria Dzerefos said Creswick currently shared
the world record with another lawyer, who had since died.
Creswick, who has donated blood since he was 18, said it was the
simplest way of saving lives without too much personal effort.
"Its such an easy thing to do if only people could realise how
important it and how easy it is to do."
His involvement stems from an accident he witnessed at age 11,
which subsequently led to his joining St John's ambulances.
"On that day a tram ferrying tennis players rammed into a car. What
was so startling was that they were all dressed in white and
suddenly they were in red.
"From that day I decided I was not going to sit around when I could
save lives," Creswick said.
