Double standards at play

2008-07-30 09:49

Chris Roper

We've all learnt a lot from the whole Jon Qwelane "manlove is for pigs" saga, and several of my readers have pointed out these object lessons to me. At some length. Many I agree with, some I vehemently don't, but I'm going to run through the choice ones and let you make up your own minds.

The first thing readers have pointed out, is that the result of the inquiry into Qwelane's alleged hate speech, which was effectively a slap on his aggressively non-limp wrist, shows that there are double standards at play.

They say that the fact that Jon Qwelane doesn't get fired from the Sunday Sun for implying that gays are like animals, but David Bullard gets the boot from the Sunday Times for implying that black people are like animals, shows that it's okay to be a black homophobe, but it's not okay to be a white racist.

I say that's rubbish - all it shows is that the Sunday Sun editor has guts, whereas the Sunday Times editor doesn't. And for that matter, neither does the Rapport editor, for firing Deon Maas. His crime? Saying that people who practice alternative religions are NOT animals. Go figure. But that's another story.

I absolutely disagree with public pressure being used to decide your editorial policy, not to mention your HR policy, and I think that firing David Bullard for writing unspeakable crap is a cowardly thing to do, although not as stupid as hiring him in the first place. And I wouldn't want to see Jon Qwelane fired either.

However, I reserve the right to think that the Sunday Sun is run by conservative, homophobic, old-school South Africans pandering to the lowest common Christian denominator. But hey, if that's their brand statement, fine by me. And as for the Sunday Times, the less said the better.

Want to be heard

Although having said that, let me say a little more. It would be nice if the Sunday Times answered the two e-mails I sent them last week asking that they correct an error in one of their stories, where I'm referred to as writing on gay internet portal Mamba Online. Never mind, they apparently take the "Sunday" bit of their name seriously.

Which neatly leads me to the next thing I've learned, which is this: if you're a white columnist writing about racism, nobody assumes you must be black. But if you're a male columnist writing against homophobia, many people assume you must be gay.

To put it more clearly - anti-racism seems to be one of the unquestioned pillars of our constitution, assumed (a big assumption) to be common to all, whereas other human rights, like the right to sexual orientation, is only on the B-list, and practiced by people who are non-heterosexual and non-Christian.

Why is this? I'm afraid it's the fault of the usual enemy of freedom, Christianity. You'll notice that this implies that Christianity is its own worst enemy, and I think that's a truth that can be applied to all religions. If Islam was SA's dominant religion, it would be guilty of the same thing, and ditto for Judaism, animism or, God forbid (that bit's a joke), Satanism.

I'm writing this column on a BA flight to Joburg, so I'm not going to harp on about religion much more, just in case we crash and I get hauled up in front of the Pearly Gates for a harp to harp talk with St Peter. Why take chances? But I will say this: if you're gay and you're a Christian, you have more in common with Jon Qwelane than with me, which is an interesting little conundrum.

The lighter side

The other lesson we can take from the JQ story, is that only 5% of gay people have a sense of humour. I know, I know, an incredible, even shocking, statistic. But how else do you explain the fact that over 2000 people have joined the "Appalling homophobia in our midst!!" Facebook group, but only 100 have joined my "Jon Qwelane is so CUTE!!!!" group?

And this despite the fact that I have double the number of exclamation marks in my group, which is a surefire drawcard for gay people, according to my Will & Grace research.

Still, I'm not going to be bitter about it, because we have bigger battles to fight. And the main one is this: representatives of the major South African religions, like loony Qwelane, are striving to strip our constitution of some of our staple human rights. On any given day, a Christian, Muslim or Jew somewhere is calling for the return of the death penalty, for an end to gay rights, for certain racial groups to be preferred above others, or for women to be classified as inferior to men.

That is the nature of those religions, and indeed, of every single religion I've ever heard of. Ironically, the people fighting against these reversals are most often members of those religions. I don't know how they rationalise their fight, but I applaud it.

Because religious freedom is as precious as all those other human rights, which is why, despite the fact that I'd love to be the one squeezing Jon Qwelane through the eye of a needle, I'm glad he wasn't fired. And here endeth the lessons.

On your blog regarding the two emails to Sunday Times - I think her name is Camilla.

Justin 7/30/2008 10:18:50 AM
Agree with you on the Sunday Times stance re David Bullard, have you read any of the Trovato stuff ... Not sure if that was a good move by the ST. Agree with you on JQ as well. Good column as always

Tuffy 7/30/2008 10:20:41 AM
Didn't see it but I'm told racist commets were flying and personal insults were the order of the "meeting" aired on TV last night; wonder if we'll have another Irvin Khoza-type excuse demanded?

Justin 7/30/2008 10:23:37 AM
Quick one, noticed Jon Qwelane isn't on the columnist list anymore, he been fired ?

Dave Robbins 7/30/2008 10:28:20 AM
Chris, you certainly managed to pack a lot into this weeks' column. And well done on practising what you preach - "I'm glad he wasn't fired"; noww that is true tolerance!

CC 7/30/2008 10:31:16 AM
C'mon Chris, I hoped for better from you. You are as bigoted as any of those you are judging! "On any given day, a Christian, Muslim or Jew somewhere is calling for the return of the death penalty, for an end to gay rights, for certain racial groups to be preferred above others, or for women to be classified as inferior to men." What a load of bull and what a gross generalisation! So it's not ok to be racist, It wrong to be homophobic, but bring on the Christian bashing? Do you not see the irony?

Simon 7/30/2008 10:32:07 AM
Chris - your title describes your post perfectly. Sadly this time you are the one with the double standards!

J Cilliers 7/30/2008 10:38:09 AM
Chris, great column as usual - I can only applaud your objectivity, tolerance and balls of steel.

Johan 7/30/2008 10:39:38 AM
Most people seem to misunderstand two of the two most important aspects of free speech: 1. The whole point is that you should allow people who you completely disagree with to have their say as well. In turn you are protected when you want to express an unpopular opinion. 2. The antidote to bad free speech is good free speech, not censorship or other forms of silencing people. JQ should not be fired. Maas and Bullard should not have lost their jobs either.

Ali 7/30/2008 10:40:20 AM
We are a secular company and no religion should be used as an excuse to attack the constitution. Remember that lil think called tolerance..seems like they dont cover that in the bible.

colin 7/30/2008 10:43:02 AM
Chris what does it say about MEDIA24 editors for removing Bra JQ from this forum ? does it mean your Editors are all GAY cross dressers who still have to come out of the closet. I also can not access any of JQ prior articles on the Media 24 site as his name have been removed from the list of Columnist - does it mean MEDIA24 and specifically this forum have distance themselves from JQ.

Ian 7/30/2008 10:48:34 AM
I saw the news24 crowd pushing some of his racist drivel in the columns because of the many hits that it generates. Which in turn generate clicks to sell to the ad companies. More clicks more money, irrespective of the crap dished up. That's why I stopped even 'clicking' the qwelane columns. I suppose that's why you kindly refer to your own little something.co.za site ? cheers

Spyker 7/30/2008 10:55:03 AM
Agree whole heartedly with you. I'm just worried that after this you might also be without a job. I can hear those crosses being sharpened.

Mike 7/30/2008 10:55:50 AM
I' glad JQ's columns have vanished. I refused to even click on them from a while ago due to his standard hate speech attitude. Now I no longer have to be so careful. I agree 100% on the double standards regarding Bullard.

Ian 7/30/2008 10:56:09 AM
Good column as usual. pity that John Qwelane and Jonathan Mosely have to resort to sensationalism to attract responses and interest in their rubbish columns. The editors of News24 must encourage them to write sensationalistic pieces, however their columns WILL SOON BECOME LIKE JERRY SPRINGER and eventually no one will read their rubbish or respond in the comments section. Jonathan is trying so hard to be cool and witty, but he is an IMMATURE fool.

Marc 7/30/2008 10:56:56 AM
to the sensitive people who get offended by this column...you pathetic. You just cannot face the truth. Our scoeity is dominated by intolerance, Qwelane was just speaking his mind..good for him. i love controversy, those who dont are dull and boring Bullard was also great..good for him too for speaking his mind. I call on all decent jounos to be as offedning as possible!!

Grant 7/30/2008 10:57:07 AM
I have not read JQ's article however given its source I have no doubt its both highly offensive and poorly written. What really tickles me is that the Nats used the bible as justification for apartheid and now people like JQ use the same piece of fiction as justification for homophobia. The irony of that is unfortunately lost on mental midgets like Jon.

Lejane 7/30/2008 11:00:19 AM
Animals are perfectly wonderful creatures - what's the problem here?

faithful 7/30/2008 11:00:39 AM
Wow, you and David Moseley sure are enjoying bashing people with faith this week. You may not state it, but your writing clearly shows you two somehow see yourselves as superior to us who choose to embrace their spiritual life and religious heritage. I am appalled at JQ's statements, but blame him, not the faith of millions of people who live in peace with and may even be related to those he bashed. You don't value religion probably because you don't live in a country without it.

andrew 7/30/2008 11:01:04 AM
Loved the column, I'm joining the "Jon Q is cute!!!!" group immediately. (And not just because of the flagrant abuse of punctuation marks) ;-)

NAZ 7/30/2008 11:02:06 AM
JQ never said that Gays are like animals in his claim as alledged, although it could be said that GOD has proclaimed quite clearly that their lifestyle was never excepted like the sodomites of Sodom & Gomora and will never be OK,JQ is therefore not guilty of hate speech.

Theresa 7/30/2008 11:02:40 AM
A mind is like a parachute. It only functions when open.

Danny 7/30/2008 11:13:42 AM
This whole JQ story just shows the very subjective way in which 24.com use the media to indoctrinate people. When JQ spoke out against whites, no problems, but the moment he bashed gays - now it's a big deal. Personally I think he's not guilty here and I think Dave Bullard must also return. I represent the private social media here, and I think that this country should take a stand against the pro-ANC Media24. Although I still browse this site, I don't buy any of their publications anymore.

a shame really 7/30/2008 11:18:17 AM
Censorship in this 'democratic' country doesn't allow normal people to state the obvious, that fools are fools, but it allows fools to state whatever nonsensical rubbish comes in their puny minds. Maybe because censorship in this supposedly free country are run by those same fools. What hope have we?

Lloyd Macklin 7/30/2008 11:22:25 AM
..on the head, as usual. You either believe in freedom of speech or you don't. It cannot be selective. What I love is the way Christians react to anything that is perceived to be a challenge against their belief system even though, in most cases, they have not, personally, even read the article.

Logic vs Reality 7/30/2008 11:22:46 AM
If you?re a believer you would know that someday all mankind will have to answer for their decisions and actions. If it?s this windy day you crash in a plane or another day in the future. Be that as it may...I won?t try to convert you or any-one else who have heard the gospel, but do not feel moved by it. What I do want to say is that as a believer you should decide which team you are batting for and then support the cause. Religions form the basis for many cultures, but un-fortunately we do not all pray to the same God with the same commandments. So conflict is un-avoidable. If we all pray to the same ?god?, whose ruling one world order, promoting peace for all, religion will be outlawed. This will lead up to the things prophesized in Revelations. Isn?t that already happening?

greggo 7/30/2008 11:25:41 AM
Its not so much the religions themselves that are the problem, but the small minded human interpretation of them. All the religions you mention actually teach compassion and tolerence. Unfortunately religious leaders, like political leaders, are power hungry fools. My favourite line in the bible is "judge not - lest you be judged". In other words we should worry more about our own shortcomings and not judge others. Basically, people in glass houses... etc.

TEMBILE SITHONGA 7/30/2008 11:26:40 AM
Did u guys ,fire him because of his comments? answer me now!

George 7/30/2008 11:30:16 AM
To be honest, I prefer JQ to Chris. The main reason being that although I don't often agree with JQ, I understand his arguments and viewpoints and can understand where he is coming from. Chris on the other hand irritates me, especially in his references to religion (Christianity in particular). He battles to differentiate between the religion (e.g Christianity) and the people (e.g. Christians). Followers of ANY religion are NOT the indication of the vallidity of that religion. Judge the standard.

Me 7/30/2008 11:30:18 AM
Loved the article !! Harp to harp......really funny ! I am over the moon that old Jon does not seem to be around on news 24 anymore , i actually stopped visiting the site for awhile due to him -and the fact that they actually published his drivel. Woo Hoo !!!

niels 7/30/2008 11:32:10 AM
I am so bored with Chris Roper going on and on and on and on about JQ.

Stryder 7/30/2008 11:35:20 AM
Great read, I must take issue with one stand you take and that is that you blithely state that the issue is editors with balls or not. Sorry pal, but JQ's column and many previously have been far more acidic and filled with racism and bigotry than bullard's ever was, it definately is okay to be a black bigot in SA and not okay to be a white bigot. that is a double standard and cannot be avoided by deflecting it onto the editors. the problem with Bullard's column was that it was true.

marius 7/30/2008 11:36:07 AM
This prosecution and be-titling of the Christians by you and your supporters are spoken of in the Bible. Go read yourself on what your future will be if you do not stop it.

gman 7/30/2008 11:37:22 AM
Chris, I believe in God. Now call me what you like. Place me in the "Christian" box if that's how you organise things. But honestly, the way you generalise all Christians like that tells me something about your own "liberal" stance. So if for instance a taxi driver, drives badly I may generalise that all black people drive badly? Really, most people that have such narrow views have hardly spent enough if any time with such people and are prejudiced towards them.

TB 7/30/2008 11:40:33 AM
We are so used to the state controlling our lives (read pre 1994) that we cannot digest the fact that all people do not think alike. Sad really, because ones own thoughts are so one dimentional. Listening to and reading other opininions, whether you like it or not, can be extremely educational and interesting.

James 7/30/2008 11:42:24 AM
This week Chris Roper and David Mosely (who is not known to be related to Max Mosely who in turn was cleared of taking part in Naxi role player with 5 hookers) have both poked fun at the godly. Chris Moerdyk, in his rant against two pin plugs left religion out of it. Weird! Everybody knows two pin plugs are the work of Beelzebub. As are Philips screws. Perhaps that could be the topic of next week's column for somebody.

Jack 7/30/2008 11:45:36 AM
The line between freedom of the media and downright violation of people's rights is a very fine one. But something has to be done about achieving a national consensus on this. I saw last night how this issue can get out of hand: the episode on South Park, where they look for a bomb in Hilary Clinton's snatch. Now that's gutter media for you - should we allow things to deteriorate to that level?

CC 7/30/2008 11:46:37 AM
I represent the animals - those poor creatures who cannot defend themselves and whom people so lighly equate with the human race. They do not rape, murder or hijack. Wild animals kill to survive and take only what they need. Domestic animals demand nothing of us (no gravy train for them) but remain loyal to their owners. I think we could actually learn something from them.

shane 7/30/2008 11:51:21 AM
What a crap column. By using the constitution to bash religion your column is no different then Bullard?s and JQ?S. At least the religious have a moral compass. You will unfortunately see that the constitution only protects certain ideologies. It?s against the death penalty but for abortion. It?s against discrimination but for affirmative action. No wonder this country is so F@#^t up because its constitution and people that follows it are.

bob 7/30/2008 11:51:29 AM
Biologically being gays is wrong in more ways than one. Second keep religion out of this, being gay is that persons choice. But also if you gay I have freedom of speech and I will say what I want about these people, they are sick in the head. Further more gays will always have to defend themselves. Normal hetro people dont need to justify anything, yet for centurys to come gays will still be crying where are our rights. What rights you gay live with it in the times we are in

Christian 7/30/2008 11:51:47 AM
True Christianity does not hate. True Love is the desire to see change for the Good of society and of the world. Read the Bible, not just the select little pieces that seem to prove your point. Yes there are rules, but these are for mankind?s best. These rules are tempered with mercy, love, peace and inner peace. Jesus Christ, my LORD and Master, died for my sins and for yours, because he loved us all. So for the record us ?Born again Christians? do not hate Homosexuality, adultery or any other sin, we do even Judge, that task is given to Jesus when he comes again. We just love enough to want sins like ourselves to change. God Bless.

johnson 7/30/2008 12:03:48 PM
You are fooling no one but yourself! The whole article smacks of smirking arrogance. By pigeon holing groups you imply no one else is capable of holding similar opinions. For example, there are many non-believers who would like the death penalty re-instated and just as many christians who don't!

Andrew 7/30/2008 12:04:58 PM
Do Christians then reserve the right to judge others, but not be judged themselves. If you want to be respected as a Christian, practise humility and tolerance, not the prejudice and arrogance. You choose to ignore phrases like "turn the other cheek" and only use the bible when it suites your purpose.

Sam 7/30/2008 12:09:57 PM
I am a Genghis Khan Fan ? I believe we should have absolute open fee speech to say whatever we want. That way we can all let off all the steam we want?..I mean what crap is this Hate speech? Let everyone say what they want, even kids know that sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never? So you probably call me racist and most of my comments will never be allowed to be aired and I might never get rebutted by someone who might make me see that all people from European decent are not animals ? must agree with you? Let the mud sling?.Viva Genghis?

Panalla 7/30/2008 12:13:32 PM
It's not the first time that someone sneers at Christians for standing up for what they believe in. My question to you is how can you believe in something if you are not prepared to stand up for it? The Bible did warn that true Christians will stand out amongst the crowd, and not blend in with the world. Homosexuality is against anything that God intended for humans , but that doesn't mean we're to judge each other, as all of us have our own petty sins, and none are worse than the other.

stack 7/30/2008 12:21:15 PM
great article as usual!

herman.pretorius 7/30/2008 12:23:21 PM
Freedom of speech can only be applicable if it falls within the absolute moral law of God. Why? Because His law (fullfilled in Christ) protects us from judgement. In order to protect the individual from the wrath of God I would pray/hope that this worldview of human rights (i.e. if it is against God's absolute moral law) would end soon, because I fear the JUST wrath of God against humanity!!

Gman 7/30/2008 12:27:27 PM
It's simple - I do not read JQs coloums anymore, I won't listen to what he says and all in all will do my best not to listen to the garbage that comes out of his mouth. He is a disgrace to SA and a loud mouth that wants attention.

Curious 7/30/2008 12:31:56 PM
Doesn't anybody read his column in the Sunday Times? It's always controversial, mocks Zuma and Mbeki and their idiocy unreservedly and makes my Sunday mornings perfect!

BR 7/30/2008 12:34:55 PM
This is great article and a perfect example of the way news gets reported these days! It's all about entertainment. Editors and reporters entertain us with the way they percieve the news and they highlight their views, all the while receiving a kickback in terms of $$. Lesson learnt = take all news with a pinch of salt.

no worries 7/30/2008 12:37:34 PM
You do suffer some mental agony trying to snake your mind through the barbwire of South African political correctness, at the same time a bit sensitive, anally retentive...ooops .. is that animal domain - please dont fire me from N 24

Mini-Mdu 7/30/2008 12:54:06 PM
I am a black, Shinto, bi-sexual, one legged dwarf who happens to be a prostitute, and all I hear, EVERY DAY .. is insults. Black people are this, short people are that, we Shinto'ists are whatever, not to mention that I do not particularly mind what sex of livestock I shack up with. Don't start me on the sexism that I get when I dress like a GIRL. The constitution is simply INCOMPLETE!!!!!

mark 7/30/2008 12:55:36 PM
From most of Chris Roper's comments, one would think him to be a student of theology, as he has an enormous opinion of the bible, mostly ill-informed,yet seems to have a negative opinion of everything to do with God. Perhaps us Christians, are not always the best example but thats why we need Christ, and that's why my friend you do too!

John 7/30/2008 12:56:35 PM
The most non religious countries also have the lowest crime rates. Coincidence? I think not.

turbo_superboss 7/30/2008 12:56:59 PM
where Islam says men are superior to women, go do your research before making more blanket claims. There is a difference between culture and religion.

Johan 7/30/2008 1:02:58 PM
I hope you realize that if you were born in a different time and/or place you would have told us that we are only allowed to talk about things that are allowed within the laws of Allah, Zeus, Vishnu, Mithras or any of the thousands of gods that people have worshipped. Even under your own god's "unchanging" laws there were times when it was illegal to suggest that the earth is not the centre of the universe or that women should be allowed to receive an education.

Lloyd Macklin 7/30/2008 1:04:15 PM
..my comment. I was taking about christians who react without being fully aware of the facts. As you just did..

John 7/30/2008 1:07:07 PM
For hundreds of years people have been proclaiming that they are living in the times of revelations. Why is this time any different? It's not because revelations is a fable written by an isolated mad man writing about the time he was living in. Try doing some real life history fact finding before you jump directly into believing something that was put in a book by the votes of just plain old men.

Interesting... 7/30/2008 1:12:35 PM
This discussion shouldn't be about Christianity, or any other religion - but about the right to free speech. Jon Q has an opinion and he's voiced it. Good for him. If you disagree with Jon Q, then good for you too. The point is, why is it intolerance on Jon Q's part to disagree with homosexuality, but it's being 'open-minded' to start bashing Christianity and Christians? Double standards indeed.

John 7/30/2008 1:13:00 PM
You said exactly the same thing yesterday. Clearly god didn't bless you with a creative mind.

Z 7/30/2008 1:15:30 PM
Homosexuality can never be a right thing to practice. I feel sorry for those with homosexual feelings, but do they have to act on them? That cannot be right. IF HOMOSEXUALS HAVE A RIGHT TO BE AND WE ALL HAVE A FREEDOM OF SPEECH WHY IS WRONG TO CRITICISE HOMOSEXUALS?

JP 7/30/2008 1:16:39 PM
How come it's okay to bash Christians, but a total traversty when gays are bashed? It seems that it's only okay to voice your opinion when it suits you...

Dino Perumaul 7/30/2008 1:18:15 PM
It is with great pleasure that I notice that JQ has been removed from the News24 Columnists section.....hooooray!!!

Jake 7/30/2008 1:20:11 PM
The bible in 2 Kings 2:23,24 says that God sent a bear to maul and kill 42 children because they called Elisha a baldhead. So by using your logic the killing of children because they insult someone is OK. Son please don't use the bible to justify anything because I have plenty more verses than this.

Sinudeity 7/30/2008 1:28:33 PM
Double standard racism. Freedom of Speech!

TB 7/30/2008 1:36:55 PM
Chris, why bother providing space for comments on News24? Certain people can simply not stick to the topic by the look of things. You should only allow 3 possible options to respond: 1) Agree 2) Do not agree.3) Agree to an extent. Thus everybody can express their opinion. This is an international website. Ek skaam my morsdood. What must the rest of the world be thinking of our SA'n IQ?

John 7/30/2008 1:42:20 PM
Simple, gays don't try make me gay and they not trying to take over the world.

marius 7/30/2008 1:45:15 PM
I do not judge others, I only warn them of the consequences spoken of in the Bible; its my duty. But because people do not like it, they say it is judgement, just like you now. Turning a cheek is when someone slaps you and not when someone offend our believe. The bible are sometimes more real and direct than you might think. Reborn Christians will not be judged as we excepted Christ as our Saviour...and so can anyone else...it's free.

Warren 7/30/2008 1:46:06 PM
It's "persecution" not "prosecution" for god's sake man, get it right! Also, if you think a little criticism of your fantasy religion is persecution you need to do a little research. A dictionary and a book on the history of Communism will, I suspect, really help you to see the light. As for the rest of the comments - criticising people for being gay is no different from criticising people for being black and last time I checked there was no freedom of speech in that regard (ask Mr Bullard!)

herman.pretorius 7/30/2008 1:48:02 PM
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Because of this absolute statement - the Word is still applicable today. Please note I am not supporting religous ideas from a few centuries ago, which clearly was illogical. And please note I am not judging anyone - just fearing the wrath of God against HUMANITY! I can only trust in Christ because He is the only absolute in all creation.

Lauren 7/30/2008 1:48:09 PM
The same could be said for people of different races criticising each other... You can't have double standards. A bit of a lame argument really. Excellent column as always Chris!

andrew 7/30/2008 1:50:30 PM
The reasons christians get "bashed" - in NO way similar to the persecution of the gay community - is because of their double standards and their naive belief that they have monopoly on morality.

Sean 7/30/2008 1:53:08 PM
What!? Jon Qwelane finally got done for saying something outrageous!? Well I'll be damned. I better start doing my research.

I see that you also used this opportunity to comment on the topic. You just did exactly what you accuse other people of doing. Take a look at your own IQ before you try rag anyone else about their intelligence. This is a forum of debate and most, however not all people are debating about certain topics contained in the article.

Please read my comment's subject together with the comment. Anyway, I do not need a creative mind in this column, just a mind.

Wow. Just read Jon's column on Facebook now. Lets be honest, he has always been in favour of trying to stir things up- just dont try and trample all over his point of view or you will become a part of one of his hate columns. The entire read was a "oh god, he didn't just say that" sort of affair. Shame Jon, shame.

Imagine there's no Heaven It's easy if you try No hell below us Above us only sky Imagine all the people Living for today Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too Imagine all the people Living life in peace No religion, no war. All the big wars ultimately come down to religion - the opiate of the masses.

There are currently two articles on News24 which chastise Christians and one a few days ago by G. Guides, which followed the same trend. Homosexuality is a huge taboo amongst africans, irrespective of religion. How you've managed to vilify Christians I fail to understand.
