Port Elizabeth - Although freedom fighter Raymond "Oom Ray" Mhlaba will be buried on Sunday at Zwide Cemetery in Port Elizabeth, his remains will be exhumed within eight weeks and reburied at Red Location Museum.
The museum is under construction and will be completed only in about six to eight weeks.
The decision to rebury Mhlaba at the museum came after numerous discussions between the executive mayor of the Nelson Mandela Metropole municipality, Nceba Faku, various national and provincial government departments and Mhlaba's family.
Kupido Baron, media spokesperson for the metro, said on Tuesday Mhlaba would be the first person to be buried at the museum.
Sunday's service will take place at Vista Campus of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. He will be buried alongside Govan Mbeki.
Mhlaba died on Sunday at St Goerge's Hospital of liver cancer.
