Cape Town - Police removed a long-haired young man from a building in Adderley Street in Cape Town, believed to be the hostage-taker in Thursday's hostage drama.
They escorted him into a van and drove away from the scene shortly before 13:00.
Police at the scene said he had gone into the Absa bank building with a firearm.
It was not clear how many people he had taken hostage although it is believed that the action took place on the seventh floor.
It could also not be established which office he targeted but mention has been made in the street below of the Human Rights Commission.
Meanwhile, Tyalana Strydom, who works at a nearby business, said: "Some guy went up and took a few people hostage upstairs in the ABSA building.
"However, some people have now been released."
Police cordoned off a section of Adderley street around the bank building.
