Durban - The luxury cruise ship Olympia Countess was arrested on Thursday morning when it docked at Durban harbour, a legal spokesperson confirmed.
Krish Reddy of the maritime legal firm Shepstone & Wylie said the owners of the ship were trying to put up security, but in the meantime she was under arrest at the harbour's passenger terminal.
Reddy, who represents some of the creditors who initiated the arrest order, said the owners had been in financial difficulty for some time.
Reddy would not disclose details of the dispute.
The Durban newspaper stated that it concerned a mortgage held on two other ships owned by subsidiaries of Royal Olympic Cruises.
Reddy said the cruise ship would be released if the owners could pay their debts.
