Johannesburg - A Nedbank ATM was bombed in Zebediela during the early hours of Tuesday, Limpopo police said.
"Police were in the vicinity of Moletana, Zebediela, busy with patrols when they heard the blast," said Superintendent Motlafela Mojapelo.
He said as the police approached the complex where the ATM was situated, shots were fired at them. A shoot-out between police and 30 suspects then occurred.
"It is suspected that they used high calibre firearms such as AK47s and R4 rifles and they were travelling in approximately five vehicles."
He said police wounded a number of suspects during the shoot-out before they fled the scene without any money.
"Police believe that a few suspects may have died after they fled, due to injuries sustained in the shoot-out.
"An appeal is made to members of the public as well as hospitals and funeral homes to be on the lookout for people who might have been wounded or killed due to gunshot wounds."
Anyone with information was asked to call Superintendent Nelson Mabotja on 082 451 7161.
