Cape Town - Three of the four victims of a Stellenbosch train accident have been identified, said Western Cape police on Tuesday.
The three are Johanna Martina Hunter, 53, Junita Johanna Doubell, 51, and a man, 54, whose surname was also Hunter.
The identity of the fourth victim, a man, is not yet known, said Superintendent Andre Traut.
Traut said all four victims were from Gauteng.
The four were killed when their hired, white VW Polo collided with a train along Vlaeberg road in Stellenbosch on Monday afternoon.
A case of culpable homicide was opened. Traut said this was standard procedure in an investigation, as the driver of the Polo is among the dead and he does not believe at this time the driver of the train is responsible.
"It was just an accident," said Traut.
