Bushbuckridge - A DJ was unable to finish his performance at a Youth Day celebration in Mpumalanga, on Monday night or host his late night radio show because his sound system was stolen.
DJ Ntate J Modise of Bushbuckridge Community Radio, or Radio BBR, was invited to perform from midday to 20:00 at an event organised by local businessman Enock Mashego.
"Towards the end of my performance, while I was taking a break, my sound system vanished into the night," said the DJ.
"I had been so excited to see my fans who came from far to support me, but never thought that my enemies were also there."
The 20-year-old DJ, whose real name is Modise Mogakane, said he had asked some friends to keep an eye on his equipment while he went to put petrol in his car.
They told him they didn't hear his equipment being stolen.
When he returned, he found only his computer and one speaker left on the stage.
Security guards helped them search for his equipment, but did not find it. He had to ask someone to fill in for him and host his radio show on his behalf.
'My fans wouldn't do this'
The thieves got away with about R10 000 worth of equipment, which included an amplifier, mixer and a 3600W speaker. Mogakane is not insured.
"I know my fans would not do this to me. This was the work of heartless people who don't respect the fact that I make a living with the sound system," he said.
He will report the case to police, even though he doesn't believe they will find the suspects.
"I will open a case just to register the crime, but I know my justice comes from God," said Mogakane.
