Armed men fire at moving taxi
2008-05-12 13:47
Durban - A taxi driver was shot dead in Mtubatuba on Monday, police said.
Spokesperson captain Jabulani Mdletshe said the incident took place on the N2 freeway in Mtubatuba at 10:00.
The taxi had more than a dozen passengers on board at the time.
"Passengers told police a blue Citi Golf overtook the taxi and stopped in front of it. Occupants with guns alighted from the car and opened fire on the taxi driver," said Mdletshe.
The driver was declared dead at the scene.
The taxi went off the road and stopped in a ditch.
"At least six passengers were seriously injured while others sustained minor injuries," he said.
Police said no arrests had been made and it was unclear if this shooting was related to taxi warfare.
