Port Elizabeth - A 1time passenger aircraft flying from Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg had to make an emergency landing when an engine experienced problems, the Herald newspaper reported on Tuesday.
The paper said the left engine failed ten minutes into the flight on Monday, emitting three loud bangs and causing the plane to list.
Attempts to get the comment from the airline were unsuccessful on Tuesday, but the Airports Company SA (Acsa) said: "There was a problem with an aircraft in Port Elizabeth."
Spokesperson Collen Naidoo said: "I'm not sure about that. We had a problem with an aircraft in PE yesterday (Monday)... I'm not sure what it was but you need to speak to the airline about it."
1time marketing manager, Anya Potgieter, was said to be off on Tuesday, while "all other managers are in a meeting", said a woman who answered the phone on Tuesday morning.
- An earlier version of this story incorrectly said that the engine had caught alight.
