Bloemfontein - The trial of those accused of the murder of Noby Ngombane could be postponed until later this year, reported the SABC on Sunday night.
Ngombane was head of Free State Premier Beatrice Marshoff's policy unit.
The trial is due to start on Monday in the Free State High Court in Bloemfontein.
However the office of the director of the public prosecutor has confirmed to the SABC that the State has brought an application to the High Court that the case be postponed.
No reasons for the application have been provided.
Ngombane was shot at his house in an upmarket suburb in Bloemfontein last year.
His wife, Nokwanda, and four family members will stand trial on charges of murder, defeating the ends of justice, and the illegal possession of a 9mm pistol and ammunition.
