Cape Town - A 16-year-old boy was killed when he got caught in the mechanism of a baling machine on a farm in the Western Cape, said the Food and Allied Workers Union on Tuesday.
Fawu's Albertus Olivier said the boy's mutilated body was found about 18:00 on Monday on the farm in the Wolseley district.
Fellow workers on De Liefde farm said the machine was not operating properly and claimed that some parts were kept together with a piece of wire.
"According to labour legislation, the boy was not even supposed to be doing this particular type of job," said Olivier on Tuesday.
"It has also been alleged that it was the young man's first week of work on the farm and that he had not been adequately advised about the dangers of operating a machine of this nature."
The boy's name has not been released as his next of kin has not been notified of his death yet.
