Cape Town - A four metre shark has been lurking in the waters between Glen Cairn Beach and Fish Hoek since Friday, the National Sea Rescue Institute warned on Saturday.
It has already destroyed the surfboard of a surfer at Sunny Cove.
The NSRI's Craig Lambinon said life guards at Fish Hoek beach cleared the water on Friday after a shark spotter saw the shark in the area several times.
He said the public were asked not to enter the sea between Muizenberg and Simon's Town after aggressive behaviour by the shark.
"Today (Saturday) around the 15:00 the shark attacked two surfers between Glen Cairn Beach and Fish Hoek beach. No-one was hurt, but one of the surfers' canoe was destroyed," said Lambinon.
"The two surfers managed to paddle to some rocks and get to safety. They alerted authorities who were monitoring the area."
