Durban -Two Durban lovers are expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Friday for a botched stokvel robbery in which a man was killed, police said.
Umlazi Captain Khephu Ndlovu said the couple had "planned an inside job".
The 23-year-old woman was part of a group of Umlazi H Section women who belonged to a stokvel - a group that collects money and divides it amongst themselves at the end of the year.
"The woman is believed to have asked her boyfriend to rob the stokvel on Tuesday when R25 000 would be there," said Ndlovu.
Her boyfriend and several other suspects went to the house where the stokvel meeting was taking place and attempted to rob the women.
Shots were fired and 39-year-old Sezeka Tshisaya was hit in her left arm. Her husband Bulelani Tshisaya, 39, tried to intervene but was shot and seriously injured. He died in hospital on Wednesday.
The suspects fled the scene, leaving the money behind.
"The couple were traced to the Eastern Cape and an Umlazi police team was sent out there," Ndlovu said.
The couple was arrested. An unlicenced firearm and ammunition were found in the man's possession.
"We brought the suspects back to the Umlazi police station on Thursday."
The two are expected to appear in the Umlazi Magistrate's Court on Friday to face charges of murder, attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and attempted robbery.
