Kimberley - Northern Cape police on Friday arrested 20 illegal immigrants and five Home Affairs officials in connection with a fake ID book and marriage scam.
The Bangladesh and Pakistan nationals and officials were arrested in Kimberley during a police raid, Captain Tony Modise said on Saturday.
Police found fake marriage certificates, passports and identity documents at their houses.
"We also found such documents at the homes of two of the Home Affairs officials," said Modise.
He said the officials and one immigrant, whom police have identified as being the link between the two groups, appeared at the Kimberley Magistrate's Court on Friday where their cases were postponed to May 18.
Modise said the others would appear in court early next week.
