N1 toll road rakes in R131.2m

Cape Town - The N1 North Toll Plaza in Limpopo collected more than R131.2m in toll fees in the 2001/02 financial year, acting transport minister Jeff Radebe said on Monday.
Replying to a written question in the National Council of Provinces by Piet Matthee (NNP), he said the North Coast toll plaza collected R84.8m, and the Vaal and Grasmere plaza R81.7m.
Among the other toll plazas, the Huguenot Tunnel collected R59.6m, the N17 R47m, Mariannhill R27.9m, the South Coast R20.5m, and the Tsitsikamma toll plaza R11.6m.
During the same period, maintenance and operating costs for the N1 north toll road came to R33.2m, the North Coast R23.9m, and the Vaal and Grasmere R54m.
The costs at the Huguenot Tunnel were R10.7m, the N17 R15.9m, Mariannhill R3.5m, the South Coast R10m and Tsitsikamma R6.4m.
However, these figures did not included capital expenditure or debt servicing costs, Radebe said.
