Pretoria - A robber shot dead his intended victim and then accidentally wounded his accomplice in Mamelodi on Wednesday evening, Pretoria police said on Thursday.
The victim, 20-year-old Petros Seketi from Tzaneen in Limpopo, was on a visit to Mamelodi.
He was out walking with a friend when both were accosted by two men about 21:00, said Inspector Percy Morokane.
The men, one armed with a handgun, demanded money from Seketi and his friend. The friend ran away to seek help from people in the neighbourhood.
When he returned to the spot with a group of others, Seketi was found dead. He had been shot several times in the chest and left leg.
The group spotted the gunman trying to drag his accomplice away. When he saw them approaching, he dropped his friend and ran away.
The accomplice, 21, had been shot in the stomach - apparently by accident.
He was admitted to Pretoria Academic Hospital in a stable condition and was under police guard, Morokane said.
