Uitenhage - The mother of a Hoërskool Brandwag pupil was admitted to hospital on Friday afternoon after she showed symptoms of meningitis.
Then, the condition of Geraldine Mallison of Vanes Estate caused concern on Saturday afternoon when her temperature shot up.
Her condition stabilised on Sunday and although she is still being treated in the Cuyler Clinic's intensive-care unit, she is much better.
It is now believed she has a mild form of meningitis.
Her husband, Ingemar, said he and his son, Robbie, 15, were part of a group that travelled to Bloemfontein by train last weekend for sport matches against Hoërskool Jim Fouché.
They didn't become ill, but his wife complained of a severe headache, a sore, stiff neck and shivering on Thursday night.
She was so much better on Friday morning that she went to work, but in the late afternoon the symptoms reccurred and she went to hospital. Mallinson says his wife had a similar mild form of meningitis three years ago.
Mallinson, Robbie and their four-year-old daughter have all been tested, but the results were negative.
