Johannesburg - Thirty-eight men were arrested at the weekend for urinating in public, said metro police.
"Johannesburg metro is trying to promote hygiene in the city. Urinating in public is not acceptable," said Senior Superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
He said the men, who were mostly from the Orange Farm area, were fined R100 each for urinating in public.
Fourteen taverns were also closed down for food being sold in unhygienic conditions.
The taverns were situated in Rosettenville, Malvern and Hillbrow.
"These owners will have to apply for food licences, and a hygiene inspection will have to take place before the taverns are opened again," said Minnaar.
