Johannesburg - A 28-year-old man will appear in Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of perjury and fraud after a false report to police that his partner and her two children had been kidnapped, North Rand Police said on Friday.
Superintendent Eugene Opperman said the man, who was arrested on Friday, gave the police a false statement claiming that his companion and two children were kidnapped at a shack in Tembisa on Monday.
He reported that three men entered their shack and took his girlfriend and her two children against her will. He further claimed that the kidnappers drove off with them in a white Toyota Cressida.
Opperman said police searched for the woman and her children and found them unharmed at the house of a relative. They apparently left home following an argument between the woman and her boyfriend.
She then made a statement that she and the children were never kidnapped and that her boyfriend had lied about the kidnapping, Opperman said.
She stated that she was afraid and that she and the children went to a family member's house on their own accord.
The boyfriend then disappeared, but was subsequently arrested.
