Johannesburg - Two people were shot and injured when about 15 armed robbers held up staff at various shops in a Boksburg shopping centre, taking cash, cellphones and wallets about closing time on Tuesday.
Superintendent Andy Pieke of East Rand police said on Wednesday that a 40-year-old security guard at Atlasville shopping centre had injuries to the head and stomach and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
He said another man was shot in the hand.
The robbers used two cars to make their getaway.
Shortly afterwards, in Beyers Park, hijackers shot a man in the stomach as he opened the gate to his home for his 22-year-old son.
Pieke said the hijackers took the son's car, which was later found abandoned.
The father was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.
"The East Rand hijacking task team will investigate."
