Giyani - What was meant to have been a romantic tryst in the bushes turned to tragedy on Sunday night when the woman was killed and the man critically wounded in an attack.
The 20-year-old woman and the 58-year-old man were keeping a tryst in bushes in Majosi village near Giyani, Limpopo, when they were repeatedly stabbed about 20:30, said captain Moatshe Ngoepe of Mopane police on Monday.
"The woman died and the man is in a critical condition in hospital," he said.
Police are not yet certain whether one or more people attacked the couple, whose identity is being withheld until their next of kin have been informed.
The man comes from Majosi, while the woman comes from nearby Masiya village.
Police also are searching for the cold-blooded killer of a 59-year-old man who was shot dead shortly after getting out of a taxi in Moletjie village on Friday night.
Pitsi Magogtja was returning home from Johannesburg when he was shot once in the chest. He was pronounced dead on arrival at Polokwane Hospital.
