Johannesburg - A 34-year-old man diagnosed with Congo fever was in a stable condition in a Durban hospital on Sunday, the KwaZulu-Natal department of health said.
"The patient is not in danger at all," spokesperson Leon Mbangwa told Sapa.
It was earlier reported that the patient had died.
The man and his wife were on holiday in Margate when he was admitted to St Augustine's Hospital on Friday. He was later moved to Addington Hospital.
Provincial health authorities have begun testing his wife for the deadly virus and are looking to test anyone he was in contact with over the past week.
The man lives in Kimberley.
