Johannesburg - President Jacob Zuma should be forgiven and the nation should "move on", the National Interfaith Leaders Council (NILC) said on Monday.

"Let us leave this episode behind us, regrettable as it is, and move on as a nation," the council said.

"The NILC calls for prayer for our president and his family and for healing and forgiveness in what has been a difficult week for the nation."

Absolved

They said since Zuma had apologised and "confessed" after news broke that he had fathered a child with a girlfriend, faith dictated he be absolved.

"It is now up to us as South Africans whether we want to inflict further pain or offer forgiveness."

They encouraged all South Africans to "reciprocate the president's openness and humility on this matter with grace and mercy".

Last week the Sunday Times broke the news that Zuma had fathered a child with Sonono Khoza, a marketing specialist, and daughter of World Cup local organising committee chairperson Irvin Khoza.

After an initial period of insisting it was a private matter, the presidency broke its silence and confirmed the report was true.

HIV/Aids, polygamy

Many of the opinions expressed on the matter centred on the country's HIV/Aids policies and the promotion of condom use, as well as whether it was acceptable to have relationships outside a polygamous marriage.

His spokesperson Zizi Kodwa said it was a matter between two consenting adults but then Zuma issued a statement apologising to his family, the ANC and the country.

"I deeply regret the pain that I have caused to my family, the ANC, the Alliance and South Africans in general," he said.

Sorry, Don't accept anything from him now. He broke faith with his family, friends and fellow South Africans. He is not fit to be a part of this great Nation.

Marie 2/8/2010 10:08:41 AM
Absolutely DISGUSTING!

He has no self discipline.

kelvin munster 2/8/2010 10:10:32 AM
Nonsense. he will do it again and again...he has zero morals. We dont need a person like this as a president, and the decent office bearers of the ANC must get rid of him.
He is not even a joke...a joke is something you laugh at...but who wants to laugh at this idiot.

Dyl 2/8/2010 10:11:30 AM
Sorry doesn't make it right!

Alien Dude 2/8/2010 10:14:27 AM
The only one who should move on is Zuma.He is a disgrace and an embarrassment to the nation. The fact that he only "confesses" once he has been found out speaks volumes on his lack of character and integrity.Once again he has been found out for what he is......

Alan 2/8/2010 10:16:31 AM
Sorry - Zuma is the worst hypocrite. He should leave office, and then the people will forgive him.

Wayne 2/8/2010 10:17:02 AM
Zuma will do it again. He has no restraint.

adam botha 2/8/2010 10:17:52 AM
When Bill Clinton slept around he got impeached, why should South Africa accept and forgive? A president is supposed to set an example to his people and should not be president if he cannot be a responsible President. He is a disgrace to this country and if this country's people allow him to get away with it, we will regret it in the future.with great power comes great responsibility!!!

JSC 2/8/2010 10:18:55 AM
Is this now a so called religious bunch again telling us what to do. Zuma is not above the law and definetely not above my belief. This bunch should wake up.

Tshidiso 2/8/2010 10:19:22 AM
I'm thoroughly dissappointed by the NILC stance on the matter of the latest revalations on president Zuma's expedition. Theologically, asking for forgiveness comes with responsibilities which the president has shown is not prepared take. It saddens me to see how he rubbishes the Zulu culture. More so he declares not in so many words that he owes no moral obligations to the nation.

There are a lot of us sober citizens saying, SIS Mr. PREZ!!!

sean 2/8/2010 10:19:36 AM
What do these african guys think ??? Do they think the rest of the world is stupid and dumb ?? What a bloody joke !! This just shows us once more that S.A is moving in the same direction as the rest of Africa !! Viva ANC , Viva brothers and sisters , Ok time to leave the zoo now !

CDS 2/8/2010 10:20:49 AM
It is funny how when our ANC cronies screws up, how easy they hint at "let’s move on". Anybody else, and they go to mass protest and damage public assets and toy toy.
Pity where our once beautiful country is going... sad indeed.
Fire the breeding rabbit
He is a disgrace to our people. He should join Tiger Woods in rehab.

GT 2/8/2010 10:21:47 AM
Faith dictates that you believe in things without evidence. Zuma's entire presidency lacks evidence. Give us some evidence of a decent leader and maybe we can have faith in him

B(l)ack in the Market 2/8/2010 10:22:13 AM
I do not agree with the NILC that we should forgive and forget and just 'move on'. Seems like we the nation are being expected to accept amorality.... It has taken less than 30yrs for SA to become a pariah state again because of its (disgusting) ruling party and (silently consenting) alliance. The world is now shocked but laughing because of our deplorably randy, polygamous and adulterous President. The ANC and Tripartheid have miserably demonstrated (again) that they have no moral backbone, only double (and treble) standards. and that they expect the same from all of us (despite having apparently gotten Zuma to promise to keep his prick in his pants; and despite having recalled Mbeki for also being an embarrassment to them). If Zuma was white, or not from the Tripartheid, he would have been recalled, demeaned and slated by them. Instead Zuma, and all the women he has consensual sex with, are apparently being allowed to corrupt African and Zulu culture and value systems. Zuma must have plenty of hard secrets on many leading members and comrades, to retain their support and his position. I do not accept Zuma's public apology. I do not accept his promiscuity nor his adultery. I do not accept the ANC/SACP/Cosatu or ANCYL stance or statements on the whole affair. If anyone still thinks Zuma will cease his serial philandering, he/she is a fool. If some counts are right, Zuma has fathered almost 40 children, some of whom he has failed to support, and deserted or ignored. So much for his good faith and integrity behind his recent arrogant bleat that the press/public are threatening this (new) child's 'right to life..'. All this duplicitous amorality, corrupt and compromised leadership at the highest level of the Tripartheid and Government, with Malema an apparently approved mini-Zuma in the making, may very well result in the embarrassed withdrawal (oops!) of significant foreign investments into govt and non-govt programmes. The ANC is patently as potholed as our roads, and has become a real danger to the wellbeing of our society and country. The stature of the ANC and South Africa have been sunk to very murky depths by our present-day leaders. I can't wait for the chance to vote again... B(l)ack in the market.

Riaan 2/8/2010 10:22:27 AM
When does an apology really mean anything?
In this case, we've heard it before and there's an old saying "once bitten, twice shy"
I'm sorry to say that the president didn't come out with an apology either, but only made it after some pressure on him...

Mike 2/8/2010 10:23:30 AM
Oh ok, if NILC says so, I'll forgive Zuma for showing the world what a joke politics is in South Africa, and how advanced our comrade leaders are!

Who is going to the families of the millions of our poor uneducated followers who will die from aids as a result of this wonderful example?!

Diphoko 2/8/2010 10:24:54 AM
If He want us 2 forget he might as well step down nou... before it is too late

sido 2/8/2010 10:25:11 AM
Just so must De Kock and Derby Lewis be forgiven for their sins - so that we can all move on......

Lotus 2/8/2010 10:25:22 AM
And if the 'sinner' had been anybody other than the president would the leaders of our faith have been so derelict in their duties? Th eleader of the country should be of strong moral fibre and we expect our religious leaders to be just that when it comes to dealing with his trangressions. Take the moral stand or leave your seats Interfaith council! Do you stand for God of the president?

Real African 2/8/2010 10:25:29 AM
The ANC has lost it's soul...once inspired by giants like Luthuli, Mandela, Sisulu...it now turns a blind eye to wrongs, as long as they do not have to give up power...sounds a heck of a lot like the apartheid government...how long before real leaders will be accepted by the masses...people with integrity and character...not the ones who make empty promises and who take as much as they can while they can like Zuma and Malema?

Kenko 2/8/2010 10:25:36 AM
They miss the point, see. Fact is he does not think he was wrong, and only apologised because some forced him to. At heart he stays the same and will do it again. It doesn't take any coercion for him to drop his pants.

Judge Dread 2/8/2010 10:25:51 AM
As easy as that. Just carry on buggering up, as long as you remember (after immense public pressure) to apologise, then all is forgiven and we must just forgive and forget. What an idiot. National Mampara. Imagine a country where children and adults alike have respect and look up to a nations President. This country is sad indeed. Anyone watch Carte Blanche last night, you cant even teach your children to run to the Police for help never mind the President. Bah. ** sits back waiting for onslaught of ignorant proud SA's reminding hom of the wildlife, sunshine and different cultures and wonderful opportunities (if you make it back home alive) **

gcr 2/8/2010 10:27:00 AM
Its absolute rubbish that Zuma should be forgiven. Seems that he just makes poor decisions and then apologises and then things must just move on. He has already apologised for Shabby Shaik episode as well as his alleged rape case and not using condoms and here he goes again.

O No 2/8/2010 10:27:20 AM
No i disagree how could we just forgive and move on he is a disgrace please he has no morals he has the highest position in the country come on this just think sex and thats it. He just claim culture whatever he doesent respect culture not at all. I say fire him next time at the voting station if he stands for president i will just walk away, south africans is a proud nations but with this man no ways get rid of him he is no good

Laurie 2/8/2010 10:27:49 AM
So a simple convesion and a sorry rights all the wrongs. That is why this country is in such a mess. Sorry for all the roads in the potholes. Sorry for all the crime. Sorry for the poor service. Sorry for dumping rubbish into the waterways and dams. SORRY SORRY SORRY. This country is in a sorry state and I am sorry to say that it is only getting worse. Sorry for my comment.

Lew 2/8/2010 10:29:22 AM
Until the next time? I don't think he was in pain!

MsDiva 2/8/2010 10:29:42 AM
How many times must we forgive? Not forgetting that this is costing us money, lots of it too. Enough, next child that comes out and knowing him there will be another one he is a goner, lets remove him, we deserve better

rix 2/8/2010 10:31:28 AM
sure we can forgive... maybe even try to forget.
the question here for me is will the "imperialist oppressors" be granted the same treatment in return?
Rules for some and rules for others, we are being asked to show forgiveness and compassion but a large percentage of our nation cannot find it in their hearts to offer the same. Apartheid and the horrors thereof are continually being used as an excuse and justification for the lack of tolerance and compassion toward other population groups within our "rainbow nation". That which appears to have become very polarised into black and white with some varying shades of grey. Look into your hearts people, and find what is good for all. peace brothers and sisters.

Peter 2/8/2010 10:31:41 AM
What is it that the clever people (and politicians) do not understand about the Zuma affairs. It has nothing to do with his fornicating. It has to do with where his mind is. With all the wags and multiple children, he cannot possibly have his mind on his responsibility to the citizens of the country. And, if he did, then his minf must be so far away from his domestic responsibilties, that he does them an injustice and love in the marital sense cannot be an issue. The other important matter is one of morality. He seems to be saying that morality does not play a part in his culture!

Ray 2/8/2010 10:32:02 AM
Yes, lets forget about they way he has unprotected sex the after he preaches about HIV Aids.....if the president, who is a leader of a nation can sleep around then it's ok for everyone to do it.

Feminist 2/8/2010 10:32:29 AM
Zuma behaved like a thoughtless immature teenager with a thought for consequences. Ok, was it a one-night stand with ms Khoza and what was she thinking of when succumbing to a married man?

Lesego 2/8/2010 10:34:22 AM
Zuma must step down he has disgraced our country enough is enough. We are humans not God and the is so much a person can take,God will definetly forgive you but we as a nation we say its time to go Mr Zuma

tsipa.com 2/8/2010 10:34:54 AM
Zuma can send his apology to hell, he is not getting any forgiveness from me. He is a fool who offers nothing, absolutely nothing to our country, except shame, embarrassment and discrediting our image and credibility in the global stage. His sexual libido has gone too far and costs South Africans too much in taxes and respect. What is he good at, I mean really? We had former presidents like Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki, FW De Klerk who were good at something, maybe not good at everything, but they had something to offer to South Africa. Now, this idiot from Nkandla who has no education, no tactical skills to promote our country on global stage, has come in through the back door after evading assortment of corruption charges, to become a president. How long should South Africans stand on the touchline and watch Zuma and his ANC plunge our country into quackmire which resembles that of his sexual indiscretion and uncontainable libido? Enough is enough!!!

my bydrae 2/8/2010 10:34:56 AM

A president is supposed to be someone you can trust and look up to. If his wives cannot trust him, why should the voters?

Who the 2/8/2010 10:36:39 AM
Who is the NILC?

Pai 2/8/2010 10:39:01 AM
If he was such a honest leader he would have been upfront with the nation that he impregnated a woman last year.He should have known that stories like this would create sensation.Like the ANC blaming the past for everything why must we as a nation forgive and forget so easily.I'm sorry but MY TAX will be paying for the child's upbringing whereass it could have gone to twenty other children.

charles 2/8/2010 10:41:45 AM
The president of SA is taking people who voted him in power for a ride.He should simply resign and go attend to his many wifes

beverley 2/8/2010 10:41:56 AM
ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING......BUT then again its Zuma we talking about,so ofcourse he can get away with it, no matter what he does he gets away, ok let's say.....just stand and say sorry and all must be forgotten....wot a laugh, NO WONDER THE COUNTRY IS SO MESSED UP at the moment,,, and believe me it's gona get even worse. The only apolgy he should be thinking of is.... ABOUT OUR COUNTRY BEEN SUCH A STUFF UP at present. and believe me it's gona get worse.............!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stephen Smith 2/8/2010 10:42:34 AM
I have NO time for him AND the ANC!!! They say that they will not tolorate corruption..WHAT A LIE!! Ihave proof of the corruption and Zuma with his SORRY SORRY...no time for him!!!

Joke 2/8/2010 10:43:07 AM
So absolve Eugene de Kock... you can't just say sorry and all's forgiven. Where there is transgression, there must be punishment. Or else there'd be no prisons. Don't be STUPID!

GINA 2/8/2010 10:43:11 AM
He should not be forgiven,we living in this country with our children are not part of his tribal laws, if he wants to have many wifes and children then go and do it in his private space, a kraal somewhere in KZN, we are westernised people with high moral living standards and are trying to teach our children the correct way of life but this is what they have to put up with from the President of their country. He should be fired from his position and sent home to live in his leopard skins with his family, many other children are suffering in this country without the comfort of a home and working parents because of the like of him and the rest of the ANC.

Daneil Steenkamp 2/8/2010 10:43:15 AM
Forgiveness is one thing. However, actions have consequences. If someone commits murder (or rape or corruption)and asks for forgiveness, he may be forgiven, but still goes to jail. Similarly, Mr. Zuma's actions can be forgiven, but he must step down, as his actions are not that of a leader of a country. I do not want a leader with low moral fibre, limited education and a lack of financial skills to be my president. South Africa deserves better

Andrew 2/8/2010 10:44:58 AM
Forgiveness is fine, but moving on will take time, as Zuma will need to confront the fact that he personally (not the ANC as such) represents so much of what South Africans find abhorrent in their country. We live in a country where corrpution is endemic; where a woman is raped every minute; where AIDS is rife; where family values have been dangerously undemined; where rife infidelity has trampled on the institution of marriage. Zuma has, through act or perception, either sought to benefit from, or shown flippant disregard for, these very real challenges. At the same time he (together with his minions) refuses to tolerate constructive criticism, or accept the need to change. He appears to consider himself bigger than the job he has been entrusted with. Any criticism of his lust for feudal-style privilege is considered to be ignorant of African cultural tolerances. It is a sad reflection on the ANC that this is the best they could find among their ranks to be their leader.

dissapointed citizen!!! 2/8/2010 10:46:07 AM
no no an apology in this case doesnt do it!! because as the president he is supose to set an example, the message i get out of all the things that he does is: "do bad because its easy to apologise". Zuma as the president has brought more shame than good to this country...whatever happend to dignity, pride and good reputation?,if we get future presidents like Zuma than we should just forget about having a progressive country as wished for!! the president should understand that this is not like breaking someones glass and then apologise and from there things are back to normal, its not only about him its also about us as south africans and ofcouse our reputation and pride as south africa.. i dont believe that this is what nelson fought for! The president has stolen our pride and reputation as south africans, how do we hold our heads up high if our presidents behaviour is nothing to be proud of?

Nick 2/8/2010 10:46:22 AM
Again JZ has pulled the wool over the masses.
All he has done is, paid lips service, and released a apology. A true leader would step down, and wait for the next elections - to see if the people have forgiven him. The sooner he dies the better.

Harold Ferwood 2/8/2010 10:46:30 AM
Obviously the NILC has become a vehicle for the ruling party and government, particularly for the use of the Presidency - much like the NG Kerk during Apartheid ... Does anyone know what the cost to the taxpayer is for all Zuma's dependants?

JOHN 2/8/2010 10:46:33 AM
Man, is a natural polygamist. King Solomon from the Bible had 700 wives. We are to brain washed and indoctrinated by western modern standards of living. You are all too negative,...Yes we talking about moral degeneration, and yes we must use condomes ! But let me ask you a question, have you never sinned ? Stop throwing stones.!!
Zuma,... thanks for setting the example in defying western moral standards,... Like you I want more that one wife... to procreate and..and. Simple answer,..Its your choice. SA will gladly foot the bill to support "African tradition"

D. Estment 2/8/2010 10:46:58 AM
How many more times will he say I am sorry and go and do the same things again. He should resign and live his tribal ways in his rural areas. He is making RSA a laughing stock of the world.

anon 2/8/2010 10:47:55 AM
as a president of the country he should set an example. since he has been in power he has not done that. instead he encourages immoral behaviour by doing all these stupid things. how many more mistakes is he as our president going to make and want to be forgiven for? only in SA will such behaviour be pardoned, and that is so sad. he was accused of rape not so long ago and still gets involved in such disgraceful sexual acts. is this how a president behaves? Zuma is a disgrace to our country and ONLY in SA will a criminal be president. i love being a south african but its so disheartening to see what our country is becoming because of the disgusting and stupid fools we have in charge. i feel that the citizens of this country should do something to get him out. WE are the country, not the president alone!

Thanatos 2/8/2010 10:48:14 AM
oh this is rich coming from the Den of Vipers...one of their well known patron -Ray McCauley - is about to go through his second divorce and put this man up in his pulpit prior to the election...and we're supposed to take spiritual guidance from this lot...

GINA 2/8/2010 10:48:25 AM
Hi "Real African" we know there are many like you, we do not need a government that does not worry about ALL the people, at the moment the ANC is only concerned about enriching themselves, their families and close friends, why do think they want to nationalize everthing that walks.

hennie 2/8/2010 10:49:08 AM
I see the Sunday Times has him as the mampara of the week. I could not have said it better. He has embarrassed all of South Africa, and is a disgrace to all of us. I am SURE we will pay for his stupidity throgh attendance at the World Cup-watch my words, decent peoplke will stay away from our country. I REFUSE TO ACCEPT HIM AS MY LEADER. AS PRESIDENT I HAVE NO CHOICE, AS LEADER I HAVE.

Mphatjie Monareng 2/8/2010 10:49:27 AM
One sentence in the statements reads: ""It is now up to us as South Africans whether we want to inflict further pain or offer forgiveness." In fact, we, South Africans, did not inflict any pain. Zuma did. So, why does it now sound like we'e being blamed? And, by the way, what is the purpose of this religious group? Do they get any allowance from the state for their "work"?

CPT 2/8/2010 10:50:27 AM
Zuma is no example to me, my kids or this country. He should step down asap.

Flash 2/8/2010 10:51:25 AM
Thanks, but I dont need the NILC (whoever you people are) to tell me whether I should accept our presidents behaviour or not. If this were Thabo Mbeki, you guys would probably be calling for his head. I cannot understand why JZ gets away with everything...

meg 2/8/2010 10:51:51 AM
Bill clinton was released from presidency for his unfaithfullness and many others from their high positions, it's odd that in this country it doesn't count...
i challenge the presidency to release his HIV/AIDS status and then flog it off on blood transfusion/ tattoo's or a different reason not pertaining to loose-ness. what a good example he sets. i watched an american program where africa was described as quote: " a country dying of AIDS and crime." it would seem that our presidency is flaring it on as much as any other. Great example your setting for the rest of us Mr prez, and thank you once again for allowing/ giving a reason for the rest of the world to laugh at us, once again.
Forgive? forget? umm he wouldn't of apologised if it didn't become public... nor if it had evaded the media, would he publically announce it himself and take responsibility. some one that so many cough (used to) look up to should not be in the position he is in. he stands for jack as far as i'm concerned infact, he's a good point of start for the 'country killing themselves with AIDS and crime.'

Barry 2/8/2010 10:52:54 AM
Zuma is a weakling and is trying to make this and all his previous idiscretion right with an apology that the embarrissed South African nation must not accept. If he had not been caught out, there would not have been an apology. He is not fit to lead this once proud nation, he is not fit to be a husband and is a very poor example to his children and the youth of South Africa
Zuma must be forced to stand down, so that another person with high standards, high morals and an unblemished reputation can take over and make us proud again. There are a lot of persons like this out there in our rainbow nation.

BobHopes 2/8/2010 10:53:35 AM
The sex-fiend keeps taking advantage of his friend's daughters, that is very concerning, I mean what does it say about the man's character ?

Ant 2/8/2010 10:54:08 AM
Zuma, GO OUT!!

Oom Piet 2/8/2010 10:54:24 AM
My Prez!! You are forgiven.

meg 2/8/2010 10:54:37 AM
and there are people blaiming a 'genocide' of AIDS/HIV victims on Thabo... can we blame Zuma then for the genocide has just started with his great example??

domdom 2/8/2010 10:54:50 AM
Yes, we need to forgive, because that's the only way we can move on. President Zuma needs to recognise that he has a sexual addiction and do something about it. He has already had a rape charge made against him and he was very lucky the courts accepted that it was consensual. The next time he is accused of rape it might stick and he'll end up in prison and disgrace the nation.

Tanz 2/8/2010 10:55:33 AM
Why is this religious group getting involved? In a matter that is clearly amoral. Our presidents actions are sickening, literally, as his actions will be to blame for a spike in the HIV numbers. His apology isn't going to save any lives. Maybe these religious leaders should spend less time speaking to the media and more time praying for the state of our country!

Perisher 2/8/2010 10:55:58 AM
The NILC are simply a set of Zuma apologists in the religion business. McCauly and his business cronies are just the same - believe in a sort of panspermia with whoever is passing. Preach and poke up a storm!

THOMAS 2/8/2010 10:56:05 AM
I agree with the nation - President Zuma should do the honourable thing and resign from that office.

I lost confidence in the presidency and the ANC should do the right thing by recalling him.It was easy and fun for them (ANC-SACP and Cosatu)to recall our former president Mbeki.ZUMA should go and failure to do so means we are promoting extra marital affairs.

J 2/8/2010 10:56:26 AM
If he can't make good decisions about his personal life how on earth we as South Africans should trust this man to make proper decisions for our country? he must do the honourable thing and step down we dont need him anymore as our president we need someone to look up to as the young leaders of tomorrow Zuma is a disgrace.

Boerseun 2/8/2010 10:57:17 AM
To forgive is one thing, but to regain trust and dignity another. Zuma should step down or be removed, as that is the only moral step to take.

Batman 2/8/2010 10:57:19 AM
It is extremely difficult working in a foreign country on a contract and peopkle who know you are SA come up to you and ask you about the'joker' who they have been seeing on tv doing his danceing thing etc etc and they ask you is Zuma for real...what do you say it's extremely embarassing. Here we are the hegemone of Africa and this fool takes us down every week. Its reached a stage when this idiot does something foolish i tend to stay in my office...I say this 'shower-head' should 'go-home' and leave the real work to those who can do the job....if there are any left in the ANCircus who can read and think. Disgusted...

rix 2/8/2010 10:57:19 AM
my other two cents worth...
there is no such thing as "bad publicity" so if your name is up in lights, people are talking about you, then all is good...
hmmm - i wonder

Step Down 2/8/2010 10:58:08 AM
He must step down. That is what any person with any respect for this country and its people will do.

Pierre 2/8/2010 10:58:27 AM
What did the ANC expect from a person with a Standard 3 qualification? Is this the best leader that the ANC can offer South Africa? If so then South Africa has a huge problem with the quality of leaders it is able to produce.

Not acceptable 2/8/2010 10:58:28 AM
What??? We are not talking about some 14 year old who is still spaced out and has no clue about life. This is a 67 year old who is a president of a country!!! JZ is a bad, bad example to a everyone. He must step down and let an intellegent, educated and moral person lead our country. The few interviews he has done has been an embarassment - he speaks ... but says nothing. ??
I wonder if he even understands his own apology. Zuma simply cannot be trusted.

ehas 2/8/2010 10:58:49 AM
Cry the beloved country........

Richard 2/8/2010 10:58:58 AM
We need good responsible leadership in this country and this cotinent. If a president cant be a rolmodel for his people especially the youth, then he is not fulfilling his role. President Zuma had to many question marks hanging over his head to ever become President. Now it is even worse. He has to step down to save whatever dignity he has got left.

Juju-man 2/8/2010 10:59:35 AM
Know who is the chairperson of NILC? Millionaire Pastor Ray MacCauley. So what kind of statement would you expect from them? Ray is precisely the same as JZ.

Fellow comrade 2/8/2010 11:00:35 AM
We are fed up with this kind of behaviour from Comrade JZ.He is taking our kind hearts to his own advantage as comrade i was taught to respect other people not only my fellow comrades but with JZ i witness a different tune all together lets wake up and do the justice i think from the bottom of my heart comrade JZ. must call it a day from the Presidency as we were taught to do that as comrades, comrade JZ fell it your sword mfetho you now deep down that this is equal to what safe your face and the party please JZ.

Big Cheese 2/8/2010 11:01:05 AM
No problem in forgiving him - it would be the Christian culture's way . But this man is not fit to be a president . He has neither the intellectual nor educational nor moral capacity to lead a nation . He acts like a randy nineteen year old , has NO
capacity to distinguish between right and wrong and has a SERIOUS lack of judgement : his friends include Shaik , he seduces his DAUGHTER'S friend and has unprotected sex with her , he fathers 20 ( known ) children which begs the question how he can afford to maintain them all on his meagre salary and he seems to think a simple apology (another one ! ) will make it all go away . Simply put , this man is not fit to govern .

Frankie 2/8/2010 11:02:40 AM
Why must he be forgiven? Tiger Woods was ostricized, Terry was dropped as England captain. Does a head of state not have more responsibility tan they have, or can he just do as he pleases and then say sorry? If his is the type of role model the young ones have, I am only glad that I am of the "older generation" and will not be around to see the deep moral degenartion this country will fall int

Ricky C 2/8/2010 11:02:59 AM
What I have noticed is that all South Africans are as angry about this as each other which tells me that Mr Zuma has crossed a line, a moral line that none of us can forgive, he will do it again a leopard never changes his spots, he is a deeply flawed man and this should come as no suprise, wait for the next election people are starting to see through the ANC......

The Truth 2/8/2010 11:03:05 AM
Isn't the "National Interfaith Leaders Council" chaired by a certain "Pastor" Raymond McCauley? Enough said!

les pond 2/8/2010 11:03:16 AM
Could he at some point prove his commitment to a "HIV free country" by having a test live on television with the results made public?
What next?

paul 2/8/2010 11:03:35 AM
what a joke, with this country in such a mess Zuma is the perfect teacher, commit the crime, say you are truly sorry and all the narrow mined followers say he should be forgiven, first coruption, then rape and now all this nonsense....the rest of the world are laughing.

FORRYS 2/8/2010 11:05:05 AM
This person does not deserve his position of office. The president of the country should hold the highest morals and be an example for the nation to follow. This is not the case with Jacob Zuma. He should step down immediately!!! We as the nation deserve better. Would Nelson Mandela have done this? I do not think so.

pewarly 2/8/2010 11:07:51 AM
I totally agree with @Daniel Steenkamp

Di 2/8/2010 11:09:02 AM
Bye bye Zuma. Why cant SA get a president with class. This is not a racialist issue here but a moral issue. Mr President, what are you showing our kids. Sorry I murdered, sorry I raped, sorry..there are times when its just do damn late to say sorry..... You are a figurehead. You cant just say sorry. If you would have murdered or raped would you then have just said sorry....

braino 2/8/2010 11:09:20 AM
Sure we can move on,further to the edge of the precipice which is where the so called "moral leaders" are leading us.

Teresa 2/8/2010 11:09:21 AM
Well, we know the NILC are bought and paid for by the ANC.

My Opinion 2/8/2010 11:09:43 AM
hahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha... its either laugh or cry...i'll rather laugh at it all. thats anyway what everybody overseas is doing: laughing at our 'fearless' leader. strangly enough, i think its the apartheid governments fault. now how does a whity get to that crazy answer? well, if black and coloured people where part of our general population from the beginning then our middle and upper socio-econimical classes would be more diversly distributed. this would make the general voter more educated, less gullable and thus less likely to take this kind of 'gemors'. guys like jz, malema & schabby schaik wouldn't get near the government. and so no crazy 5 wives and 40 children plus a hand full of girlfriend for our pressie!

@ jacob Zuma 2/8/2010 11:09:45 AM
Mr Jacob Zuma

The people of South Africa request that you step down as president.

Regards

The people of South Africa

Fred 2/8/2010 11:09:45 AM
I am to withhold my tax payments until such time as Zuma stands down. I refuse to pay for his excesses and abuses.

JC 2/8/2010 11:09:54 AM
The man has the morality of an alley cat. He breeds indiscriminately with anything will to spread it legs. This on top of the fact that he is a proven liar and nepotist, and more than just suspected thief. It's not only cream that floats to the top.

George 2/8/2010 11:10:47 AM
I live in South Korea and I am so embarrassed to answer all the questions here as to why our President does all the things he does. The people of Korea are laughing at our country and particularly our president...wake up Mr Zuma and do the honourable thing and resign !!!!

Bob 2/8/2010 11:11:02 AM
He hasnt broken any laws, but when do we consider integrity, loyalty, honesty and morals. Has the moral fabric of the ANC completely disintegrated ? He has not just cheated on one wife, but on all his wives. Is he a sex maniac ?

JP 2/8/2010 11:11:43 AM
You don't just DEMAND forgiveness, you earn it. And that I am afraid is probably too difficult for him as he has disappointed too many too much...

Kurt 2/8/2010 11:11:50 AM
Zuma isn't sorry, he just did some PR work or read what someone else wrote to defuse the situation. It's his culture, remember. I expect more from the leader of my country.

Pangea 2/8/2010 11:11:54 AM
Who is this joke the NILC? Another bunch of fools that cannot live by the own rules but expect everybody else to. These bunch of Hypocrites mean nothing and you wasting valuable cyberspace on them.

Eric Barr 2/8/2010 11:12:01 AM
Next time I get a traffic ticket, I will just go in to the Traffic Office and say I am sorry.I wonder what they will say?

Benjamin 2/8/2010 11:12:28 AM
If president Clinton had to take the heat as a prestigous public figure. Zuma should be spared nothing less. We can all be licensed then to go out. . . murder, steal, kill, rape . . and then we can all "move on". Zuma was arrogant and defiant from the outset and he should take his medicine now like a man.

Whiteman 2/8/2010 11:12:52 AM
Zuma and all his "comrades" MUST leave.Give us a new Party to rule.Better than the one we have now.

Chris 2/8/2010 11:13:36 AM
Zuma is an embarrassment for our Country and Africa; He should be kicked out of the government and send for sex therapy for 10 years by that time he get out he will be too old to have sex.

DeeDee 2/8/2010 11:13:42 AM
We need bare mimimum standards and it needs to be followed. President Zuma's response has always been "I made no promises to you, I am not required to live by your standards and expectaions". I think we need a president who convinces us why we need to vote for him as opposed to a president who wants forgiveness all the time for his apparant misunderstanding of his role and duties. http://snipr.com/uapw1 to read more

Cleo 2/8/2010 11:13:47 AM
Saying sorry just comes too easy, especially if pushed into it. Maybe more genuine if he had apologised immediately on his return, and not a week later. Then he still blamed everything on the media, and that it was his culture.

hein Cent 2/8/2010 11:14:40 AM
This is a third world country .Our president doesnt have to behave like first world country's President . He represent the ANC and not the whole countrys population.

Mobster 2/8/2010 11:16:13 AM
What on earth is the National Interfaith Leaders Council smoking? Or they must be on drugs! Zuma should be hounded out of public life, and be prosecuted for all the misdemeanors that have simply been swept under the carpet!! The very idea that the nation should pray for a person that has no scruples at all is ludicrous! The NILC finds it convenient to hide behind religion for something as grave as this unforgiveable Zuma crisis. To quote Lord Sacks of the United Hebrew Congregation of the Commonwealth, "I believe, to, that religious beliefs have no principle status in a democratic society. Religion should have influence and not power". If the NILC supports the ruling party in this way, it shows that it too has no principles, just worried about their own status on the gravy train!

Gavin Jepson 2/8/2010 11:16:20 AM
As they say in the classics "Sorry se Moer:.. How many more times is this idiot going to say :sorry" Spin doctor or no spin doctor this as usual will be swept under the carpet by his ANC cronies. It's our culture. Like Hell. What an idiot.

Leah 2/8/2010 11:16:44 AM
It's it amazing in the UK the English soccer captain gets sacked from his position because of cheating here in SA we should just forgive.

peegee 2/8/2010 11:17:19 AM
We all knew this guy was going to be a stuff up, that is why he was removed from office by Mbeki, he already knew what sort of leader he would be. I bet the idiots who pushed him forward as president are feeling really foolish now.

Jonathan 2/8/2010 11:17:31 AM
@ rix you idiot. What are you even saying?
PS - there is no "colonial oppressor". That's like the tokkelosh - a mythical boogy man created by your real handlers - to divert your fear or quesitioning. (sorry if I dissed the tokkelosh now)

phil 2/8/2010 11:19:15 AM
What is the use of saying anything. JZ will continue to do as he pleases and not think of his actions with respects to how it affects his / our country.

ZNO 2/8/2010 11:19:34 AM
Apology not accepted. We forgive, but the president should exercise maturity and integrity and step down... I cannot allow his indiscretion to afflict and curse my children and their children.

Mpho 2/8/2010 11:19:36 AM
He has no Morals, we dont deserve to ruled by such a kind of person. On top of Polygamy which is not acceptable he still goes to do more damage....this man needs to be taught to ZIP his pants. Our nation is a great 1. so it needs someone who has morals & values. i wonder what is in his head.

bok4life 2/8/2010 11:19:43 AM
He is a joke! Not only to the South Aficans who had the common sense not to vote for him but to the rest of the world!! We are NOT taken seriously with leaders like this!! But what does the ANC care the mentality of the ANC and the absolute sheer stupidity of JZ and malema makes me ashamed to be a South African!! All these double standards its a joke!!

leon 2/8/2010 11:20:55 AM
What made the ANC once great was that the people who led this party had to work hard and endure many pain and hardship. for the new leader it is to easy. Its almost like the little spoiled brat of a son taking over the business. Zuma..i.e. the ANC should resign.

Mike 2/8/2010 11:23:17 AM
Pres. Zuma is insincere and decitful.when the issue came up last week he was unapologetic and saw nothing wrong with this scandal. He only apologised under pressure. This is not the last of his scandals we are going to see during his presidency. What strikes me is that most of his children were born before he got married to their mothers. Watch this space!

maverick 2/8/2010 11:23:19 AM
the only reason Zuma is apologising is becasue he got caught!the ANC is morally bankrupt!the only reason they elected a buffon like Zuma is so that they can manipulate him and continue to loot and plunder the country with impunity. the real sell outs in this country is the senior leadership of the ANC who is only in it for themselves.isn't there one ANC leader that has the conviction and moral authority to right the wrongs that are being done before we all go down the tubes?

Geoleo 2/8/2010 11:23:25 AM
What does a farmer do to an errant bull, he has him castrated. Let the NEC strip him of his presidency like they did Mbeki

ola 2/8/2010 11:23:29 AM
you have 20 children, that you have now put in the centre of your sick behavour. tell me how your going to give them all/ each individugal attention that a child ACTUALLY needs? oh, ..... so your also promoting broken families as well as NOT using a condom and nonsubstaining? damn nerve. you have 4/5/6/7??? wives, which all live in a different house, sorry, what is our tax money being used for?
you sleep around in the public eye, somewhere i remeber virgin and shower comments about AIDS, your the flyer boy on the poster!!! dont stand up in front of me, this country and say your fighting for a better world nothing. your trying to kill us off is more close to the truth. No, i'm not sure how you can even forgive yourself, while the world laughs at us for your actions, while your followers kill themselves off, ask yourself if you deserve forgiveness. if your answer is yes, you've over looked omething or blinded yourself to reality.

KK 2/8/2010 11:24:13 AM
we forgive you mr president...!!

We all make mistake. After all we are South Africans. we believe in forgiveness!!!

Tartan 2/8/2010 11:24:17 AM
I am surprised that he still has time to do any legislation, seems to me he spends more time bonking than politicing!!

bBethuel 2/8/2010 11:25:20 AM
Must i kill a person then ask sorry? I thisnk the man is old enough to deferentite wrong & write.NEC please re-call him as did previously. He contradicted HIV/Aids programme.

juggler 2/8/2010 11:25:27 AM
Zuma should step down as he is not worthy to lead this nation ,he keeps on following his primal instincts, and has no control of his urges. He is an embarrasment and a joke ,20 children and a penchant for his friend's daughters, has he no morals and no shameand no leadership qualities . sis!

thabo 2/8/2010 11:25:32 AM
Bra JZ - your time has come - you wanted to be Prez - you got it and now you need to move on - the masses will still pay your golden handshake for the rest of your life but we dont want a b@foon like you represent a democratic country which we all worked hard for - just to be embarrased by you!!!!

Dave 2/8/2010 11:25:54 AM
Like the corruption and everything else he has done, just bruch it under the carpet. The ANC once i proud party who i looked up to under the Mandela rule, no more, it's a joke. It's all gone downhill, the ANCYL is just as much of a joke. Makes one wonder were this is all going.

Frank 2/8/2010 11:40:56 AM
Forgive, for his human frailty, sure, no problem. What cannot be done is the revision of regard for him as a person and as a president. He is simply not of the right caliber to represent a country that strives to be first world and a player in the league of nations. Does the ANC not understand, we whites desperately need you to succeed but with losers like this you cannot. Chris Barnard said of Botha (i think)that if you want to walk in front you must be able to walk fast. How can a man of his age and position not even think about birth control when he takes a walk on the wild side, be a suitable president of a major country? Hell 16 year olds know she can get pregnant. Sorry not up to the mark.

GINA 2/8/2010 11:42:48 AM
Sorry "Hein Cent" He is the President of this Country South Africa his party is the ANC, they as members should have his presidency withdrawn, but they will not as they all live under the same traditions, maybe one of them will be president one day. Please people do not use the word culture when it comes to our politicians they do not deserve the word.

GB 2/8/2010 11:43:47 AM
Why should we care anymore? As you sow, so shall you reap. We South Africans have sown the seeds of our own destruction with a Constitution that has no moral standards to subscribe to.Therefore we are all FREE to do whatever we want, when we want, how we want, to whom we want, thus obliterating the word "perpetrator" from our dictionary. It is the fathers of this Constitution who should be apologising, for they have consigned (or should it be aligned?) the destiny of South Africans to the dustbins of the universe.

disgraced sa citizen 2/8/2010 11:45:14 AM
In a few years this place is going to end up like Zimbabwe. I dont understand how such a terrible person run out country?something needs to be done soon.
