Pretoria - The case of a suspected member of al-Qaeda was postponed in the Pretoria magistrate's court on Wednesday pending presidential permission for the court to accede to the extradition request from Libya.
The accused, Ibrahim Ali Abubaker Tantoush, was arrested in Pretoria in February for allegedly being in possession of a fake South African passport.
Libya has requested his extradition for charges of gold theft, or alternatively, house breaking.
Its alleged that Tantoush stole the gold to finance al-Qaeda operations, but local authorities have refused to comment.
Public prosecutor advocate Albie Leonard said that although all the documents pertaining to the extradition had arrived, the State had yet to obtain presidential permission to accede to the extradition request.
The case was provisionally postponed to July 20, 2004.
