Pretoria - Convicted armed robber Collen Chauke was given a suspended six-month sentence by a Pretoria magistrate on Monday for escaping from jail nearly 10 years ago.
The sentence, handed down by a magistrate at a special court at a Pretoria prison, was suspended for five years, said Rudi Potgieter of Gauteng correctional services.
Chauke was found guilty of escaping from Pretoria Local Prison on February 25 1994, while serving a four-year sentence for car theft. He was rearrested on April 22 that year and served the remainder of his sentence.
Chauke was sentenced to 15 years' imprisonment in 2001 after being found guilty of stealing R12.6m from a depot of SBV security company in Pretoria in October 1997.
He was sentenced last year to an additional five years' imprisonment for escaping from jail while awaiting trial during December 1997.
Chauke is serving his sentence in Pretoria's C-Max prison.
