Jo'burg blitz nets almost 300

Johannesburg - Close to 300 people were arrested in Johannesburg and surrounding areas for various crimes, police said on Sunday.
Spokesperson Captain Bhekizizwe Mavundla said a total of 279 people were arrested between Friday and Sunday.
"The suspects were arrested during a crime combating operation which was conducted by reservists, crime combating units and detectives," he said.
Mavundla said the suspects were apprehended for, among other things, attempted murder, fraud, house breaking and assault.
He said the 279 were nabbed in Braamfontein, Parktown, Hillbrow, Berea and Joubert Park.
"They will appear at the Johannesburg and Hillbrow Magistrate's Courts on Monday, depending on the seriousness of the crime committed."
