Cape Town - An argument over a boy might have led to a 13-year-old slashing her friend's throat.
Gerhard Niemand for Kraaifontein police said they were investigating a murder charge after Jolene Snell's jugular vein was slashed on Monday afternoon.
Lizzie Snell of Bernadino Heights in Kraaifontein said on Tuesday she'd sent her daughter to a shop near their house to buy bread about 18:00.
On the way Jolene apparently got involved in an argument with another girl about a boy.
The 13-year-old girl, whose name may not be released because she is a minor, allegedly drew a knife and slashed at her friend's throat.
Snell said Jolene's cousin came screaming for help.
"Jolene had barely been gone five minutes when her cousin came to call me. She screamed: "Aunt Lizzie, Aunt Lizzie, come and look - Jolene's been stabbed"."
"I went outside and saw her lying in the street. She was still alive and tried to get up, but collapsed again.
"I held her tight and watched the blood gushing from her mouth," Snell said.
None of the bystanders offered to help.
By the time the paramedics arrived, it was too late to save her.
Jolene was a Grade 7 pupil at Watsonia Primary School.
