Johannesburg - A group of volunteers, who planted white crosses along the N1 highway in Centurion a week ago to protest against farm murders, is upset because the crosses have been removed.
Centurion attorney Dr Phillip du Toit says: "The Tshwane metropole granted permission for the crosses to remain along the road until Monday, August 4. But someone apparently removed them on Thursday morning. We want the crosses back in place."
The crosses were apparently removed because there was no clarity about whether the land belonged to the provincial government or the Tshwane metro council.
Antoinette Mostert, spokesperson for the Tshwane metro council, was unable to say what had happened to the crosses.
A cross was planted on Sunday for every person murdered in farms attacks since 1994. This followed a walk against farm attacks in England earlier.
