Cape Town - Violence against women and children was one of the priorities of the police, Western Cape police commissioner Mzwandile Petros said on Tuesday.
Petros was speaking after he and Western Cape safety and security MEC Leonard Ramatlakane had opened three new family violence, child abuse and sexual offences units in Oudtshoorn, George and Mossel Bay on Tuesday.
"The issue of violence against women and children is a national priority, and we would like to place emphasis on service delivery in this sector," Petros said.
Ramatlakane said the opening of the units demonstrated that police cared for the community.
"We are serious and committed in confronting this challenge head-on," Ramatlakane said.
