Intruders attack couple

Johannesburg - A couple had a narrow escape after they were attacked on their farm while they slept, North West police reported on Monday.
Inspector Erica Roos said that on Sunday Jacobus Stephanus Davel, 60, and his wife, Silvia Annetta Davel, 59, were asleep at their farm at Shylock, Rustenburg, when they were woken up by the sound of intruders who used a crowbar to gain entry.
Davel rushed to the kitchen where he grabbed a butcher's knife, while Mrs Davel stayed behind in the bedroom, said Roos.
"One of the suspects went to the bedroom and attacked Mrs Davel with the crowbar. She sustained head injuries. The second suspect fired two shots at Mr Davel.
"One projectile hit (Davel) in the lower leg and the other went past his head. The second projectile only scratched his forehead".
The suspects fled the scene and the Davels drove themselves to the Fern Crest Hospital in Tlhabane. Mrs Davel was treated and discharged but her husband was admitted.
"Evidence shows that after the couple left for the hospital, the suspects came back and took several items from the house," said Roos.
