Eshowe - Five alleged robbers were arrested on Tuesday morning after robbing cash payment services at Ndulinde Tribal Court, near Eshowe, of a substantial amount of money, KwaZulu-Natal police said.
Captain Pinkie van Vuuren said the robbers forced a collision with the cash vehicle and disarmed the guards of their firearms and money. The robbers then sped off in a Toyota Venture towards Mandeni.
Van Vuuren said the robbers stopped and threw their firearms in a river before hijacking two vehicles. The robbers drove towards Dokodo where a Volkswagen Caravelle minibus and a Toyota Venture were waiting for them.
While the robbers were driving on the N2 towards Durban they were spotted by members of a police dog unit who gave chase, forcing them to stop.
Five alleged robbers, including a police officer from KwaMashu, were arrested.
Police recovered a firearm and a substantial amount of cash, Van Vuuren said.
